Journeys of Ethnically Diverse Student-Led Community Cultural Tour in Mei Foo🌏🚶‍♀️

Last month, our ethnically diverse students from Delia Memorial School (Glee Path) organized a Community Cultural Tour in Mei Foo as part of “The Interplay of Life and Career Aspirations and Multicultural Identity Development for Underprivileged Students” project, funded by HSBC Hong Kong The Hongkong Bank Foundation. This tour empowered students to design and lead cultural experiences while building core skills in storytelling, communication, and teamwork.

🏢 Facilitated by our collaborated organisation WEDO GLOBAL and Youth Ambassadors, participants set off from Lai Chi Kok Park and made their way through key heritage touchpoints in the district, from the historic cannon site to Mount Sterling Mall. Along the route, student tour guides shared their cultural stories, facilitated interactive activities, and invited participants to see familiar streets through the lens of history, migration, and multicultural life in Mei Foo.🌟✨

This tour marked an important role shift: Students stepped up as cultural ambassadors for community members and HSBC employees, confidently leading discussions and co-creating a space for dialogue and connection. 🗣️
💟 Feedback from participants has been incredibly encouraging. Many shared that the tour was “eye-opening” and “surprisingly rich in stories”, and that they would now pay closer attention to the people and histories embedded in the neighbourhoods they pass every day. Several also highlighted how inspiring it was to see young students leading with such ownership, sparking meaningful conversations around identity, inclusion, and belonging.

Through these cultural tours, students are not only celebrating their multicultural heritage, but also building social capital and deeper community ties in Mei Foo. Many thanks to HSBC Hong Kong The Hongkong Bank Foundation, and The Hong Kong Council of Social Service (HKCSS) 香港社會服務聯會 (社聯) for their support, which made this tour a success!
