Program Experience

Fellows receive professional teaching training by the Quality School Improvement Project (QSIP) under the Hong Kong Institute of Educational Research of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, training included:

1. Lesson planning,
2. Classroom management,
3. Assignment, and
4. Worksheet design, etc.

• Fellows gain two weeks of hands-on teaching experience put the newly learned teaching skills and pedagogical knowledge into practice.
• Fellows recieve feedback from veteran teachers and past TFHK Fellows who are currently full-time teachers and understand the learning curves of new teachers.

Fellows attend workshop from

1. Local and global education practitioners, to get inspiration witemerging developments within the education sector and critical questions educators should answer, and 
2. Cross-sectors leaders to empower Fellows unconventional teaching talents with a strong vision for impacting and innovating education

Fellows will be placed in a high-need local primary or secondary school that serves under-resourced students.

Fellows have a lower teaching load compared to regular teachers, teaching around 10-15 classes per week.

Therefore, Fellows can use the freed-up time to leverage their academic backgrounds and professional experiences to enhance lesson and material design, as well as in-class experiences, stimulating students’ interest and motivation based on their needs.

Fellows leverage their own expertise and go beyond after-class tutorials to curate more immersive learning activities that help students actualize potential.

Our Fellows have organized activities including but not limited to

• Arts & Culture, Financial Literacy, Global Vision & English Learning, Life & Career Exploration, Mental Health/Social & Emotional Learning, STEM, Sustainability.

Fellows are also free to tap into our vast network (corporate partners such as Corporating Companies under Swire Trust, Morgan Stanley, Link Reit, HSBC) for resources for impact initiatives ideas.

LDOs provide support on teaching and leadership development. They offer coaching on Fellows’ progresses towards personal development or innovative projects through regular check-ins.

They also bridge outside resources for Fellows customized learning and self-development opportunities, such that Fellows deliver greater impact during and beyond the Fellowship.

An experienced teacher at your placement school who will provide day-to-day practical support and help with integration into life at the school and within the local community.

Attend workshops and events as part of your leadership and pedagogical development every Friday.

Through PD Fridays, you will:

• Improve teaching skills (e.g. classroom management, lesson planning, etc.)

• Gain exposure to education system (e.g. education policy, alternative education)

• Hone skills for leadership and career building (e.g. personal branding, interview skills)

This is also an opportunity for you to learn from and bond with other Fellows on the same leadership journey.
