In face of education inequity, grassroots students often suffer the most
Statistics have shown that students from grassroots background lack support in learning and exposure within the community. As a result, this has a long-lasting impact on their academic achievement and personal development.
Education Inequity As A systemic Issue
Education inequities manifest in different ways. From family, schools to community, the complex issues which involve multiple stakeholders make the problem challenging to be solved.
Teachers in high-need schools face heavier burden in administrative duties than other schools. Most resources are drifted towards the best-performing students in academics, deviating support away from students in need. These schools often lack cross-sector connections, reducing students’ exposure to other industries.

Parental expectations and involvements are low in grassroots families. Members from these families often have low academic qualification and lack social capital in supporting the growth of their children. As a result, grassroots students have limited exploration around their personal interest and reduced exposure to self-development opportunities.
Community support towards students is insufficient. Students lack opportunities to explore industries and affairs in the community. They lack ideas and ways of contributing to the community. They also do not receive support in developing 21st skills, which are crucial for their growth and development.
